A model of all the figures from the 2016 edition of the Sand Figure Festival was created by the 3D designers of the zetaFORMS and is exhibited at the Flora Exhibition Centre in Burgas. The three-dimensional work recreates with absolute accuracy the shapes and proportions of the sand works.

Such miniatures are produced for the second year in a row in order to preserve the art of the festival for future generations.

„It is important for us to leave a trace of the lives of the people of Burgas for those who come after us. The festival is a treasure and we want to preserve it for the generations to come so that they can continue it and enjoy its history,“ said the Municipality of Burgas.

In this case, we have an art form that is endlessly impressive but also fleeting in its life path. Just like a person's life. 3D technology enables us to capture these unique moments, and in three dimensions, to give generations after us a real insight into our lives.“ This is what Genka Dimitrova, team leader of the zetaFORMS.

Technology

The techniques and experience of standard model making are not enough to make a model. Absolutely accurate recreation of the sand figures in the mini version is a great challenge. The principle of photogrammetry is used to build three-dimensional digital images based on 50-60 photographs of each sculpture from all sides. After precise computer processing, the virtual images materialise again - they are built on a professional colour 3D printer and turned into absolutely realistic mini copies of the large original sculptures.

For a full and complete recreation of the complex of sand figures, elements made with the technology of standard modeling are added - palms, trees and flowers in the same scale, small stones for the paths, colored pedestals for the figures - everything identical to that of the real complex. What's more, mini sculptures of real festival-goers admiring the sand figures and taking souvenir photos have also been recreated.

Everything is crafted with great love and attention to detail and recreates the entire setting with its grace, elevated atmosphere and even dynamism.

zetaFORMS is an innovative company that specializes in three-dimensional scanning and, in particular, in 3D full-frame scanning of people.
